The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
